This 17-day trek offers you a spectacular journey into the remote Trans-Himalayan mountain area enriched with Tibetan culture known as Mustang. Explore thousand years old monastery, caves, local tribes and scenic beauties of different and unique landscapes. The adventure starts from the world’s deepest gorge in the Kaligandaki area to the world’s highest regions; Lo-Manthang Valley, which passes through alpine, barren landscape, steep rocky trails, and panoramic views of Nilgiri, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and several peaks. The trek passes through high peaks, mountain communities, glaciers, and alpine valleys.

The thousand years of isolation maintain a pure culture, lifestyle, and heritage unchanged for centuries. The houses in Mustang are mostly made from stone and sun baked mud bricks. The city wall and the four-story palace in Lo-Manthang showcase the most beautiful architectures of the Mustang region. Another attraction in the Mustang region is the Tiji Festival influenced by Tibetan Buddhism, which is timed to coincide with the end of the dry season (late winter/spring). The people of Mustang have their own way of living, quite unique and full of surprises to the outside eye.

There is strict control in obtaining a special permit for Mustang from the department of immigration, in efforts to protect their tradition from outside influence as well as to protect this fragile environment. The Upper Mustang trek starts from Jomsom to Kagbeni, the entry point of upper Mustang Region. Follow the banks of Kaligandaki River upstream to get to Lo-Mangthang, the capital of the upper Mustang.
